Safety Training Courses

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency has changed life as we know it, including by severely disrupting business on a nationwide scale. Now, as our collective attention turns to the next phase in the pandemic, with relaxing stay-at-home orders and efforts to reopen the economy, employers must assess and evaluate dozens of employment-related issues, including the appropriate application of updated workplace laws and record-keeping requirements.

The purpose of this course is to provide employers, supervisors, and regular employees with the most current and applicable laws and regulations, including:

• The Family Medical Leave Act
• Families First Coronavirus Response Act
• New York State Emergency COVID-19 Paid Sick Leave
• New York City Paid Safe and Sick Leave Law
• New York City Temporary Schedule Change Law
• New York City Fair Workweek Law

Students will need to have access to an internet connection, a computer or tablet with access to a web camera, microphone, and download the Zoom app.

Gallagher Bassett’s Hybrid 40-Hour Hazwoper training program covers the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Standard that applies to five distinct groups of employers and their employees.

Besides the instructor-led lecture and instructional videos, the program includes an overview of pertinent provisions of EPA standards or laws, decontamination equipment and procedures, and a review of air and contamination monitoring equipment. The training concludes with a class interactive task where students are asked to apply the information and materials provided during the course to mock hazardous scenarios.

This course is held partially remote via Zoom and partially in-person for the required hands-on activities. You must fully complete both lecture and hands-on portions of this course to complete the program.

Gallagher Bassett is now offering a Hybrid Learning 4-Hour Flagger Training. This course is perfect for students who want the convenience of learning virtually and for Employers who need to minimize employee time away from work. Maintain social distancing while taking the training you need.

Although this course is not available entirely online, the National Safety Council allows for the majority of the course to be completed virtually followed by a practical portion that must be taken in-person. The full course includes 3 hours of virtual, instructor-led training plus 1 hour of hands-on training.

During this 4-hour course, students will be introduced to Federal and New York State policies, procedures, and standards. Training will review general work zone safety principles covered in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) book, with a concentration on recognition and prevention of hazardous conditions, and the topics discussed in this course provide a thorough understanding of the proper signals and safe flagging techniques specific to New York regulations, flagging procedures and proper use of required equipment, and how to coordinate traffic movement through the work zone. Students will have an opportunity to review flagging skills using hands-on training and classroom activities.
